Hey..."when i grow up" i want to be a travel writer - what could be better, getting paid for travelling? - and was wondering if anyone had any tips, ideas and/or contacts, as i'd love to do some on my RTW trip that's coming up!

Take a look at Rolf Potts site. Not only is he a very successful travel writer, he's also always travelling - and he gives great tips on how people can devote their life to travelling just about full time.

Hi Ems!

I have a smouldering ambition to do the same thing, but the world seems to be saturated with travel journos. What I'm thinking of doing is this:

I would be writing as I travel for myself anyway, so i figure i might as well just send monthly pieces to my local newspaper at home here in Ireland and see what they think. If they dont like em they can bin them, and who knows maybe they'll go for it.

That's a start and from there...who knows...

Do you have a background in journalism?

Do you have a background in journalism?

Yea...many travel writers do have sort of such background (and some do not and it is actually not the steppingstone as I believe)...but I believe your genuine creativity and spirit of possiblity would transform you into an inspiring writer!

Under the Tuscan Sun (Frances Mayes), Seven Years in Tibet (Heinrich Harrer), Pilgrim (Paul Coelho), The Motorcycles Diaries (Ché Guevara)are some of the inspiring works...
