Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Good place for Honeymoon in Australia in late August?

Hi,

my fiancee and I are getting married in August and hope to take a week or so to go somewhere nice. Any ideas what areas are especially beautiful and nice that time of year? There is nothing we are particularly looking for, so i'm open to any ideas. Thanks!

Considering it will be the dead of winter, if you want nice weather, look above roughly the 'middle' of australia. Go lower and it will be chillier.

A private lodge on a small island at the whitsunday islands would be my choice, hands down!

thanks, i will read about it in my tourbooks tonight :)

A private lodge is a really good idea. The whitsundays are nice, but there is also a private island north of there called Bedarra Island. It is expensive i'm told, but the houses are beautiful and if you want complete seclusion it is perfect because you have to be staying at the resort or in a private residence to be allowed on the island. And that time of the year is perfect weather in the far north. It would be my perfect honeymonn destination.

How much do you want to spend?

There's some fun tree houses around - they're usually designed with honeymooners in mind - privacy, spa etc - pricey but memorable. http://escape.news.com.au/story/0,9142,15028125-27982,00.html

All are in top tourist destinations, so choosing between them will depend climate and proximity to international airports (Cairns and Brisbane, Sydney is a bit far from most of them) The ones around Brisbane (Tamborine, Montville and Maleny) will probably be cool in the evening and you'll probably be in long sleeves during the day. The rest are closer to Cairns and warmer.

thanks for the suggestions, guys.

i didn't have a budget, but i wasn't looking for anything too luxurious, so the Bedarra Island is out!

The treehouses do look pretty cool though :)

Why try the west coast around Geraldton just at the start of the wildflower season up there. The weather is in the low 20 deg C lots of fine days. Beautiful white sand beaches. Or maybe further north like Broome 90 miles of continious white sand beach. Plenty of budget and luxury accomodation in both locations.

Geraldton yuo need to fly into via perth
Broome you can get direct off the east coast (sydney ,Melbourne.etc)or via Bali

... just another thought/suggestion..... Port Pouglas is gorgeous during August, and a favourite spot for couples. It can be a bit touristy, but there are some nice secluded hotels etc and great beaches, walks and rainforest.

More info on Port douglas is at:

Congrats on the wedding!

Have a look at Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays.

It's a great island with numerous accommodation options; from luxury resort style to lower prices options. There is decent shopping, and an airport that that has direct links to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, etc.

I've been there twice and can recommend it.
