Coming to Australia in November, and was wondering if there was any easy mode of transportation around. I wont have a car, and I dont know if there are any trains/subways/ anything to get around the east coast. Any info would be helpful, thanks!
There's a subway in Sydney. Buses are probably your best bet travelling up and down the east coast, though I'm sure there are some good train services as well.
buses are quite good up and down the east coast... trains are a little more unreliable as the train network (esp in NSW) is a complete shambles. Flying is also relatively cheap between certain east coast destinations- for example, there are now cheap flights linking sydney and ballina(a short bus to Byron Bay) (I think its about A$70)...
Hi Kristy, Australia is a big country. I assume by the East Coast, you mean the area between Melbourne and Cairns!. This is actually a long way, the shortest route (inland is about 3800Km 2500 miles).
I suggest that bus is the best way to travel but there certainly are trains (morer expensive)but you would have to plan that a bit more as they only travel between capital cities, with stops en-route.
You must decide where you want to go. It will be nice weather in NSW & around Brisbane, even Melbourne is well worth a visit at this time of year. You must be aware though that November is starting to get hot & wet as you head north into Queensland, with cyclones (Tornados possible December - March).
Unsure how much time you want to spend in OZ but if it is limited, stay South of say Hervey Bay (Qld)and by all means check out all of the NSW coast if possible also depending on time, visit Victoria too. The coast here has lots to offer too. Hope you have an enjoyable time in our country.
