hi folks

Im thinking of doing the trailblazer tour with www.trekamerica.com, cost about £2k all incl.

I wanted to ask ..
a) has anyone has done any of the tours, if so any comments?
b) do you think i could do the same kind of tour on my own for less money?

Thanks
Monkee

Hi There

I did a Trek America tour back in 1999 and loved it. I was 21 at the time and travelled down the East Coast and had a ball. I met some fantastic people.

The vans are really well equipped (air conditioned) and the drivers knowledgeable and loads of fun.

We camped in excellent campsites with brilliant facilities - most had pools, a shop and a laundry.

Remember that you will be travelling for long periods of time with the same people in a van, camping, cooking, eating and sleeping with them - so you will have to be a people person. You will also do a small amount of chores along the way, such as, cleaning the van, washing up and cooking - but that is all part of the fun. I carried on travelling with 2 of the girls that I meet on the trek for another 2 months.

You can do it cheaper by doing something like “drive away”. I also did drive away (you move private and hire cars around the country). This was a very cheap way of travelling but I did this alone and it was very dull - there is not a lot between New York and Chicago apart form corn.....mile and mile of corn!!!

One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with was TrekAmerika. Their customer service is the WORST. If you like losing all your money, go on a tour with TrekAmerika otherwise I would choose a better tour operator. My experience is only with the U.S. and British office so perhaps if you are elsewhere will be different.

Well if this is the case, you may want to try this firm operating out of Toronto. I have heard only stellar reveiews and commentary about this outfit.

GAP ADVENTURES

Have fun.
