coolman has indicated that this thread is about Germany

Good Morning all,

I am new member and this is my first message.

I am going to Nuremberg, Germany this September for business and I have one week free before my business assignment starts. I would like you to advice me guys of where to go during this week. Shall I spend it all in one place or in different places? Where can I find a reasonable hotels and what sort of transportation I may need. I am thinking to visit the Rheinland-Pfalz to see the wine festival but I do not know where it will be exactly and whether it is good or not. I am also thinking to end my trip by visiting Munich to see the Oktoberfest. Notice that I will be alone and I do not want to be in any unsafe places. :(

Welcome to TP, coolman! You sometimes just have to wait a bit, but answers will be given ;).
Anyway, if I was you I definitely would not stay in one place for the whole time! You can easily see all the sights in Nuremberg on a day and then go somewhere else for the rest of the week. Your idea with the Octoberfest is a good option, though if you haven't got accomodation sorted I doubt it you will find anything budget during the period of the octoberfest in Munich. But you could always go for a day, the trainservice between Nuremberg and Munich is fast and running regularly until the late evenings. Concerning safety issues, the major tourist places aren't unsafe places at all and if you also use common sense you will be totally fine.
Another nice city in the South of Germany is Heidelberg and from Nuremberg you can also easily get to Dresden a beautiful city in eastern Germany. It features many historical old buildings, the Semper opera, interesting museums and much more.

Hope this helps for a start,

Steff

Oh, and concerning your question about the Weinfest in Rheinland-Pfalz, you can't compare this to the Octoberfest, it's rather like little towns and cities have a "wine party" for a weekend, but I wouldn't be able to tell you when and where they exatly are. What you always can do is go on a wine tasting tour around there, that definitely is fun and you wouldn't be alone.

I thought Heidelberg was really pretty and well worth a few days.

What you should do is visit Nurnberg and then go to ROTHENBURG OB DER TAUBER; a beatiful mediaevel town not so far from Nurnberg. Paul

Just returned from Germany yesterday--so here's my view.

You must visit Munich and Rothenburg ob der Tauber--both are close to Nuremburg and there's lots to see. Then if you have the time to go a bit farther, either go to Prague (Czech Republic), Dresden (Germany), Salzburg and Berchtesgarden (Austria/German border), to the castles near Fussen (Germany) or to Heidelberg (near Frankfurt).

Enjoy.
