I'm planning on doing the west coast in August (1 weeks time). I was wondering if anyone could offer advice as to whether to do perth-broome or broome-perth. I'm kinda thinking I don't want to sit on a bus for a week so probably won't take the easy rider or greyhound. I'm thinking of renting a car or campervan. A big concern is obviously cost with Hertz looking for $1000 one-way fee. Anyone know of companies to get good 1way rentals or relocations from?
I'm pretty flexible at the minute and can go either way...
Planning on seeing Uluru and kimberleys and cathing the Ghan either on way out (from Sydney) or way back,
any advice appreciated about most cost effective way of getting from Perth-Broome or vice-versa
The quickest and cheapest way is to fly in fly out
$1000 one way to broome is reasonable it's approxiamately a 2000km journey, make sure that its an unlimited km hire rate or you could get really hurt with the final cost.
allow $20 per 100 km for fuel alone.
also remember that you need to be well prepared before commencing the road journey
just bewteen Broome and port hedland (900km approx) there only 2 petrol stations sandfire and pardoo there are no towns should only take 1 day to this distance.
thanks for your reply, perhaps you misunderstood, that $1000 was JUST the one way fee, it's $80 a day ontop of that plus insurance and whatever else they'll hit you with. Definitely not going for that one. Any ideas on anyone else out there who might be a bit more reasonable?
Surely I'd get 10-15km/litre travelling at 90-100kph. Isn't $20 per kilometer allot? How much is fuel out in WA?
any advice as to which way to do it? Broome-Perth or Perth-Broome?
I said $20/100km
at 10k per litre over 100k on current perth avg fuel price is $11.30
at Port hedland prices it would be $12.90
expect to pay another 20 to 30 cpl at remote roadhouses like pardoo.
Its better to have more than not enough in your budget especially out there.
check the price at this site for fuel
http://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/ its maintain by the gorvernment under regulation all metro and selected country site are required to report daily their prices.
only the large car hire place allow vehicles to taken into the remote parts of the country. They are worth the cost just for guareenteed backup
by the way i would drive broome to perth via newman and meekatharra nicer scenery
there are always backpackers looking to share the ride and the costs
