We are going to Croatia from 1st august to 12th august (actually going to Bosnia as well). We are two guys from Barcelona and would like to meet people to spend some days travelling together or going for a beer somewhere in those lands...
By the way, even if you are not joining us, I would like to ask you about the Nightlife there... Split, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo... any clue or advise would be very very welcomed!!!
Thank you very much in advance and hope to see you any of you in the dalmatian beaches.
In just 12 days you took a lot to travel. But, it is your choice.
Nightlife in Croatian towns that you mention is very good, you can find places working all night.
The best beach with nightlife in Croatia is Zrce, Novalja on the island of Pag. It is something like combination of Woodstock and rave parade. With endless afterparties.
You have a lot of fancy places, expensive ones as well as cheap.
Currency is very easily changed everywhere.
Dubrovnik is more cultural than famous for nightlife, although there are good bars on Bourbon Street (as they call it).
In Zagreb there is a lot of rock concerts and places with live music.
Ljubljana is in Slovenia, not Croatia, so I don't have any information.
Sarajevo is in Bosnia, definitely a good nightlife there.
Of course, generally you can expect more during the weekends. Monday is definitely dead everywhere. Unless you're on the coast.
Split is maybe best choice since during the summer season they have a lot to offer. But you can not combine bigger towns and good beaches, cause they're out of towns.
You have a good choice of beers - from known european brands (Heineken, Becks, Stella Artois, german beers) to local brands like Karlovacko, Ozujsko, Pan, Karlsberg(licenced). You can even find small breweries with limited edition beers. Basically, beer costs from 1,5 to 5 USD, depending of the place.
Take enough money and have fun. It is worth it.
In Ljubljana, Slovenia, there is a GREAT club called the Global with great views. It's very affordable, and depending on the night, good music too.
In Dubrovnik there are not a lot of actual clubs (really only the one latin club right outside the city walls). My absolute favorite place to go for a drink, EVER, is a little bar I do not even know the name of. I went there about 5 times during the 4 days I stayed. Go into the old city through the city walls and take a right. Go up the long row of steps and go to the outer edges of the walls. You will see a sign that says "Cold Drinks and the Best views." During the day, if you enter and keep walking down the steps past the bar/cafe you will find a swimming area that is very hidden and with almost no tourists. This is where locals jump off the rocks and even catch octopus with their bare hands. I was amazed. At night, it's even more magical. It's the best atmosphere of anywhere I've ever been. As you look out into the pure black sky and see the slight outline of Lokrum Island, it will really hit you that you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
