I would be visiting Colombia in August, 2005.
Thought of going to Santa Marta first. Any ideas about hotels on the beach (I love beaches, nature/landscape)?
Then I want to head to cali or Medellin and thought of renting an apartment in a quieter area. Would appreciate tips on this too.
thanks a lot.
I was in Colombia early this year and visited Cartegena and Bogota and all I had with me was my Lonely Planet South America Guide Book which mentions the places you are going with all the info you require.
I would suggest if you want to rent an apartment go into the town and get a cheapie Hotel for 1 night and have a walk around town seeking any info ref apartments as that would be the cheapest option or do a google with;town/apartments!!!!!!
The Colombia people I found where very friendly and I really enjoyed my Trip their.

I was in Colombia for a month in May. Cartagena is an amazing city, and not too far from Santa Marta. If you visit Cartgena a must do is the lava pools. You bathe in warm lava mud and get massages from the locals. The tour we went on also stopped in a fishing village, where they fed us fresh fish and local cuisine. San Gil is another nice town, esp. for white water rafting and rapelling. Any questions about Colombia, I would be glad to help!
