I will be in sydney for new years 2005 and i am finding it hard to find suitable accomadation for this time. Basically we need a double room in the city and don't want to pay a fortune for it. Have i left it too late to lookbecause all the decent places seem to be booked up :(. Anyone have any ideas? we will be arriving there on the 30th of Dec and are hoping to pay around 100 euro per night for a double at the most! We plan on staying in sydney city for around 6/7 nights

Hi,
follow this link and search for sydney for your dates. I did a quick search for places from 30/12/05 - 7/01/2006 and found a few places from $158-$200AUD....going by the current exchange rates, if you want to spend less than $100EU a night you are going to need to find things for about $159...there isn't much available for that price but they are there! Happy hunting!

I'm afraid you have left it a little late, but even then, prices tend to go up quite a bit this time of year so that is also a large part of the problem.... Also, a lot of the cheaper accommodations will only sell a minimum of a week around that time, so it is (nearly) impossible to get accommodation for just one or two nights at this time of year.

Having said that, the hotel booking engine that is on this site is an Australian one (based in Sydney) and if anyone has availability for Sydney this time of year, they will. You can do a search using the form on this page and see how you go. If you put in a request and they can't fill it, they'll advise you on alternative accommodation for roughly the same price. I generally use their last minute function more, but wouldn't recommend it considering the time of year as you have to wait till 20 days before arrival...

Try the Waldorf Metro apartments in south Sydney. They are good, clean, modern, reasonably priced a,d about a half hour walk to the Opera House, or a ten minute walk to the train.

I managed to book 14 nights twin room from the 23rd Dec 05 only a few weeks ago, opposite Bondi Beach with no hassel. That was through hostelworld.com (sorry TP)

Now why in the world would you ever have done that when you can book exactly the same properties here on TP :(

The cheap accommodation link on the left hand side of every page is powered by the exact same booking system...

Thanks for all your help. I booked the IBIS hotel close to darling harbour for 5 nights over the new year and then we will revert back to hostels. Hopefully the demand will fall in the new year. Thanks again for your help
