"Be true to yourself"

And are you?

Most of the time, yes I think so. It's not easy sometimes though - the older I get the more I see that other ppl often wont let you be yourself. They draw lines around you and expect you to stay within them, and then they berate you for the very opposite thing to what you are trying to do, i.e. not being yourself.

Complicated stuff. Sorry you asked?

Not at all! It's hard enough getting to know yourself; I often do things that surprise myself (not bad stuff), so I don't know how others can really believe that they know me well.

If it's your parents, go easy on them. Ultimately, they want what's best for you.

Well, my parents can be guilty of it on occasion but only in a very small way, and I have to say I'm lucky - I have very supportive ones.

I find people my own age are the worst for trying to box you in. Maybe I just know a lot of narrow-minded 20-somethings

I doubt it. Most people are narrow-minded, it's just that 20-somethings like to think that they are not.

What bit of advice has someone told you that has proved to be useful in your life?

'Follow your instincts/gut reaction' and 'take every opportunity you get as it won't come along again' have both been useful.

"Don't step backwards" was vaguely useful when i was standing on the edge of a cliff, and "ruuuuuuuuuun" both came in handy as well, although in both cases i had already worked out what i needed to do (i.e. not to step backward, and to leg it)

Gelli...that is one of my favorites....most people second guess themselves too often...they have lost touch with the 'inner part' that generally will guide you in the right direction. Live and learn I guess...
