Hi everyone,

I am currently staying in Sydney with a friend and we would like to do some more day trips but are sort of running out of ideas... does anyone have any tips on what places we should definitely see apart from the obvious ones and those that cost $100+?

A few things I would recommend:

Scenic walk from Manly to The Spit: Buy a Daytripper ticket and go to Manly by ferry, then when you get of at Manly turn right and just keep walking until you get to The Spit. The views are stunning and it is very calming to walk through the bush right next to the sea...
Make sure you start early though as you don't want to get caught in there when it is dark - it takes around four hours... buses from the Spit go to North Shore suburbs and probably the city, too.

Coastal walk from Bondi to Bronte: Nice views over the beaches and the coastal line... can go further to a huge cemetery which looks quite amazing... swimming would probably be possible most times of the year, too - and surfing of course!

Botany Bay National Park (Kurnell): Once again, stunning views and lots of animals to be seen... There is a walk to Cronulla which is supposed to be really nice, too. Apparently in winter you can sometimes see whales.

Taronga Zoo: Probably not for everyone, but you will definitely see your native animals here...

Royal Botanic Gardens: Like an oasis in the middle of the city... adjacent to the Opera House with views across the harbour...

More tips would be appreciated!

The Aquarium is quite cool..

Blue Mountains - about 60km's from cbd you could get the train

The Hunter Valley - probably an overnight trip this one, about 2hrs drive from Sydney, great wine area

Palm Beach

Kiama Blowholes - about an hour south I think

Berry which is a bit further is a really nice little place, lots of arts & crafts.

It would definately be worth a trip to Port Stephens which is just over an hour north of Sydney... here you will find some great beaches, beautiful scenery and you can go on a whale watching trip...

Also, it might be worth doing the harbour bridge climb... I have never done it but have heard good things about it... I think it costs a fair bit... from memory about $185...

If you havent done it yet, a great way to take in the harbour is on a boat... catch the manly ferry to/from the city... its definately an enjoyable trip

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head but will add things as they come to me (I think I am taking for granted the things I am exposed to everyday!)...

good luck, enjoy Sydney!!
