I am planning on heading to New Zealand for 3-4 weeks around the Oct/Nov time. Could someone please advise as to how much money I will need over there. I plan on doing some outdoor activity so will need to account for that also. I appreciate any advice. Also as I will be coming from Melbourne and want to fly back into Sydney, who is the best and cheapest to fly with and how much should it cost.
Depends on what kind of outdoor activities you're up for actually. I mean, hiking is almost free, whereas snowboarding, rafting, hanggliding, etc. is a bit more expensive.
Hostels are approximately $20-25NZ / night, and food is pretty cheap.
And how are you going to get around? I found hitchhiking really easy (and safe too), people are really nice, offer you to stay in their spare beds, drive de-tours just for you etc. You meet a lot of people you wouldn't have met otherwise, and best of all - it's free!!!
Busses is a good option too, but avoid the Kiwi experience, unless you want to hang out with drunk teenagers all the time.
Suppose that you stay at hostels/backpackers, cook your own food most of the time, you do a couple of expensive "outdoor adventures" and travel by bus. I would suggest a budget of approximately $2000NZ or 1000 Euros (I'm not sure that I've got the exchange rate right!) for 4 weeks. That would be more than enough for me but I'm a big fan of budget travelling...
Thanks for the reply I was thinking it would cost about €1500 and then I have to pay for a return flight from Oz to Nz and need to allow money for that. What is the cheapest airline to fly to Nz from Oz??????
Yeah, on that kind of budget you'll be able to do most things you want to and live pretty well!
Have no idea of budget flights to Australia. Thai Air?
For your flights, try these sites.
Air New Zealand:- airnewzealand.co.nz
Virgin Blue:- flypacificblue.co.nz
You should be able to get an idea of flight cost from them.
I am a travel agent myself. Here's the info you need for New Zealand:
