I am trying to figure out where I want to go for my 30 day-2 month trip to Europe. This is the easy part....Everywhere. The problem is where can I afford and what do I have time for.

The list of where I want to go is as follows:

  • London (a must as we land here)
  • Paris
  • Bordeaux
  • Barcelona
  • Marseille
  • Monaco
  • Lyon
  • Geneva
  • Bern
  • Zurich
  • Milan
  • Venice
  • Vienna
  • Prague
  • Munich
  • Stuttgart
  • Frankfurt
  • Cologne
  • Berlin
  • Hamburg
  • Amsterdam
  • Brussels

As I said I want to see everything. This list is in semi-clockwise order. (The order in which I will be traveling) I know this is an enormous list and that what I need help with. What should I cut out? How long should I plan on staying at each place? Please help!

Indeed I guess you have to skip a few places since you have only say 60 days. You should at least skip: Bordeaux, Lyon, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Hamburg. In my opinion these are not the most interesting places.

How much time should be spent at each city/place??

I think the cities of London, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin and Prague u will need more time for because they are just to large/interessting to explore in say two days. I suggest to stay 5 days in these cities (that makes 30 days in total). For the rest two full days is likely to be enough. Maybe you have to skip a few more due to the fact of traveltime between the cities,

Just to make your life more complicated, I would add Brugges to your list. It's in the north of Belgium - about and hour and a half by train from Brussels. They call it the Venice of the north, as the place is criss-crossed with canals. It was the highlight of one of my trips a few years back... It's easy to get to and can be seen in a day. Sorry to add to your list instead of taking away, but its one of those little gems that I simply have to pass along!

Tway.

Anyone else?? I am trying to come up with a city itinerary so i can make a must see list. But I don't want to plan the entire trip minute by minute. Help!

Plan your global route and then just go!!!! Don't plan your trip too detailled. On the road you will talk to travellers who recommand you certain places. If you stay like 5 days in the places I mentioned you will see a lot of Europe. And believe me you can't see Europe in just two months. Save somethings for future trips....

I agree with wouterr... just work it out as you go along, obviously you will have places that you really want to see but I think you will have a better time if you are not held back by plans and time constraints and ridiculous amounts of travel...

Yeah, I agree that you should probably cut Frankfurt, Hamburg and Stuttgart from the list. They are larger and more modern cities of Germany and nowhere near as interesting as Berlin or Bavaria. Cologne is great, and you should probably do the Rhine as well as Heidelberg (beautiful - shouldn't be missed on a trip to Germany).
Have fun!

Hmmm.... never thought about it that way. The only problem with the 5 day stays in cities is refered to in this thread >>>http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=13844

I am thinking about doing what samsara2 suggested (as well as others) ie: plan for solo it he joins great
