I think it's the home of the 'Motown Shuffle' if I am not mistaken....

Well, I've never been to Detroit so I'll have to take your word on it's condition - but I'm sure your correct since you have seen it!

It is the home of the Ford Thunderbird and Mustang, Rock & Roll and Motown - yet the build the Rock & Roll Museum in Cleveland, Ohio - go fig!!!!!!!

Chicago will be much better, even though you have to travel through Gary, Inidana, which is a steel town and not very nice to look at. You'll also be coming into the the city from the old industrialized section - ugly. Don't let that be your first impression of Chicago - it's a beautiful city!!!

If you get a chance - at least call to say hello when you have a free moment!!!! What is your tentative schedule???

I lived in Detroit for four months back in 1997. Pretty dismal. I was right downtown, across from the Renaissance Center. Nice apartment, but nothing to do at night. I recall White Oaks was a nice neighbourhood.

I was coming back one night from dinner in Dearborn, and the Lodge (the highway through downtown) was closed. I had to take the surface streets. It was VERY scary. Kept the doors locked and the windows rolled up tight.

Isn't Detroit also where Eminem's from?

His palms are sweaty, his arms are heavy, there's vomit on his sweater already, Mom's spaghetti...

I was down in South America, on a slow boat from Pto. Montt to Pto. Natales, and I met a woman from Detroit. I said to her, jokingly, "so, are you a big Eminem fan then?"

She looked shocked and amazed, demanding of me to reveal how I knew! She pulled out her CD player, and made me listen to a couple tracks. She was enthralled that I mentioned Eminem.

It's a true story. It's only vaguely related to the thread, but it's still a true story.

There's still time!!!! It's just a matter of logistics.... Hey, don't know until we "talk" again!!!! Our fridge is always full!!! And do you really want ot go home without trying Beerman's beer?

If you can't make it here - at least stop off at the Berghoff Restaurant on Adams and State in Chicago - they will have Beerman's beer there - guarenteed - the brewery owns the Berghoff label! ;)
