janeyee has indicated that this thread is about Hong Kong

Hi,

I am planning to visit HK from 16-22 September.
Some friends tell me that it's Typhoon season?
Could someone confirm if it's safe to travel to HK during that period of time and would it be raining a lot that my plans could get screwed up?
I am planning to visit Lamma and Lantau Island & Macau too.

Thanksssss

Jane

hi jane,

typhoon saison's said to last approximately from june to september, so there's no guaranty for either sunshine or rain ...

for more info you could check the Royal Observatory of Hongkong site:

Hi, I live on an island a couple hours from Hong Kong. While it is typhoon "season", that doesn't mean you will get a typhoon. That's like saying you will get hit by a tornado in Kansas in the summer because it's tornado season, or that you shouldn't go to Florida in the summer because it's hurricane season. It might be a little rainy in that in one week, you will have rain two or three days but it won't be an all day rain, just a heavy, short-lived rain. All the TV stuff makes you think typhoon season means constant rain and flooding. not so, just means a little more rainy than what is average for them and you could get a typhoon, but probably won't. depending on where you are from, could still mean it's more sun than you get back home.

btw - Lantau island is fabulous!! I was tired of Kowloon after a few days because it's so crowded, dirty, and you can't walk down the street without being constantly asked to buy stuff - and they are pros and the bait and switch game. Lantau was so nice. great scenery, quiet, great hotel price on a nice hotel, etc.
