Hey Guys, I am just in the middle of planning a round the world trip. I thought that I had pretty much decided on the places I wanted to visit when a friend suggested a year just in Aus using the working holiday visa. Can anyone give me any advice on these visas whether they are good or bad and also roughly how much I would need to save for both spends and the visa itself.Any advice would be very much appreciated.
These visas are 'good' The main thing is that they allow you to work while you are travelling there. The visa itself is cheap, roughly 170 or 180 Australian nowadays I believe, so that's not going to break your budget (you can apply online at www.immi.gov.au). The question on how much you actually need for oz is much harder. It'd be like spending a year anywhere in the world I guess; you're going to need money, but less than if you couldn't suplement your funds through working while you're there.... of course if you don't work a lot and party hard, you're going to need some savings to get by!
Visitor visas are cheaper than Working holiday so if you are not planning to stay longer better get a visitor. You can only get working holiday visa once so don't take the shot unless you really need to work in Australia. here's some links:
