Quoting samsara2

Just checked out Jazz on the Park and Jazz on the Town and they look pretty good! (I'm getting uber-excited now!!)

What bad reviews did you hear T?

Samsara,

Jazz on the Park is awful and the reviews of it on the web are so far off the mark. Its dirty and disgusting and how they cram 12 beds into a room is beyond believe. You cant even get 2 people walking between the beds at once its so crammed.Theres no lockers to store your bag in the room, all they have are small and i mean small rucksack size lockers which take tokens you have to pay for and everytime you open your locker you have to insert another token. The breakfast they say is free is one tea/coffee and one bagel WOW.
The staff are rude and unhelpful.I could go on forever.

Thanks for the tip Reece! God, it looks so nice on the website. That's a pity. I suppose Jazz on the Town is much the same. What do you think?

Oh well, I'll go head with the HI so I think.

Your trip sounds like its going great! No scandal for us yet no?

Ok, for New York standards, this is cheap. Check out this place...

http://www.sihnyc.org/

The best part is that there is no tax, there are a not-for-profit organization so they are exempt from tax. It is near the Village in the East Side and a block from Union Square (subway stations). It is a block away from Steve's aunt apartment so I have gone by it many many times. It is in a good convenient area and as low as $75.

A friend of mine is staying there on August 26th, so I can tell you more about the place then. ;)
