We need help! Our trip plans have changed. Our schedule has changed. We need to know how long we should spend in India.
Pretty much, we are planning on flying into Kathmandu, Nepal and flying out of Mumbai. We want to see everything along the way and also go down to Goa. We have from 1 month - 2 and a half months to use up. How long do people just suggest is sufficient time to spend to do that route?
And also, what can't be missed in India - either along that route or not. We aren't too sure what do to still and any suggestions would help out so much!
I'd say you could take as much time as you want, India is so big and there's so much to do and see. But lots of people do whistle stop tours so it's all down to how you want to do it!!
The minimum I would say for this route depending on whether you go through Rajasthan or not (which you should!! it's such a beautiful and amazing part of India) at a relatively comfortable pace would be about a month and a half. I travelled from Madras to New Delhi in about the same amount and didn't think it was long enough at all!
As for things to do there's a lot...like getting up into the foothills to do some mountain trekking and taking a camel safari in the Indian dessert, taking the obligatory trip to the Taj Mahal (if you haven't already seen it try to do it at sunrise.) every little place you get to has something different to offer, and the cuisine! wow, the tastes change so much I never hd curry so hot or tasty before or since!
happy planning, make sure you get a decent guide, it's very useful in India as there are so many little tricks and things that are useful to know, its often hard to know where to stay and stuff!
You have to take at least one sleeper train they are the way to travel!! just make sure you have decent locks and loud light chains for your bags cos there can be thievery! but if your careful, theres no worries!
2,5 months (10 weeks) is your maximum? Look at this schedule:
2 weeks: Nepal (trekking around Kathmandu or Pokhara)
2 weeks: Katmandu to rajasthan (e.g: Varanasi, Kolkata, Delhi, Agra)
4 weeks: Rajasthan (e.g: Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pushkar, take a camalsafari in jaisalmer trough Tar desert)
2 weeks: Bombay and Goa
It is possible
Thanks so much you guys...thats exactly what we need. From what I have heard - you can get completely swept away in India and no amount of time would be enough. But we do have a time limit...and all suggestions are going to help.
