myself and my girlfriend are heading off in Jan for a year - planning to go to Thailand,Laos,Cambodia,Vietnam,Malaysia,Singapore,NZ,Fiji,Oz,China. Anyway, obviously in hostels we wanna have a room together - is this common or difficult to find?Does it cost more? Are such rooms harder to find?Need to book in advance?
It's not something I thought of till now!
Thanks for any advice
I've done some searching for hostels (although I have yet to actually stay in one), and private rooms are definitely harder to come by. Not only are there fewer, but they tend to book up much more quickly - although perhaps in the countries you're planning to visit that may not be the case. Private rooms are also more expensive - you're paying for the privilege of privacy.
If you want a better idea of pricing/availability, why not take a look through TP's accommodation section? Select different countries, different hostels and different dates, and see what comes up. It could be like your practice run!
In south east asia you wont have a problem finding cheap, clean guesthouse accomodation for 2... In some cases it might mean pushing two single beds together but shouldnt be a problem. This part of the world has particulalry cheap hotel accomodation so for a few dollars extra (still not much overall) you can stay in a pretty decent place...
Hi Ken, it's definitely harder than a regular hostel bed, but it is possible. Though I find that often a budget hotel is actually not much more expensive than a double room in a hostel.
If you are travelling Asia by bus and backpacking you wont have time to find Hostels!!!!!!!!
Just have Lonely Planet Asia and jump off the bus and go into a cheap, usually about £2-£3 a night for a double en-suite room in a Budget Hotel and to be honest you are never in the room, you are out all day and night and only come back to sleep and shower.
Have a great years travel.
