I'm going travelling in 2 weeks for a month, does anyone know how I can still keep in touch with my friends while im away without it costing a fortune?

Depends on where you are travelling to, but email is probably the cheapest and easiest option.

Hey, email is great but personally i like to hear people's voices...I travel a lot-I’m heading off for France next week and after spending a fortune on my mobile every time I go away, I’ve bought this SIM card from go-sim.com which gives me free incoming calls and when I make outgoing calls, it only charges me at local rate. They do single destination ones for loads of countries but they also do a global SIM if you go to more than one place. Hope that helps!

Keep a traveller's diary with the possibility to add comments! It's more interesting to read a diary/blog than mass emails, and your friends can send you short messages often instead of feeling the pressure to write long personal emails on the topic "What's up at home - nothing new really..."

Before you leave, write each of your family member a letter. Imagine what you will gonna be doing on this date and where will you be. Tell each of them the day when they are only allowed to open their letter. Saves you from paying internet rent if you don't have a laptop, phone, and texts too. ;)

Probably email and the occasional call, and I keep a blog, but other than that, I don't feel a very great need to keep in touch. I travel to get away.
