connwil has indicated that this thread is about Colombia

Thinking of going to Cartagena area, there are two resorts I am thinking about Cartagena Plaza and Hotel Caribe, can get a good deal flying out of Montreal, has anybody stayed a any of these places.
Is this area of Colombia safe and what is the weather like in the begining of February

Hi
I travelled from Mex through Central America then Colombia and stayed in Cartagena last Feb and it was one of the most friendlist places I had been to on my travels as everyone just wanted to talk and be happy and their is plenty to see and do.
I stayed in Hotel Madrigal;3$US for a double en-suite which was just inside the old walled city and I also stayed in Hotel San Felipe;15$US double en-suite which was directly in centre of Cartagena and only 100m from my first Hotel but I just wanted to try it and they where both great value.
The weather was perfect so enjoy your trip,I ended up in Bogota.

Thanks jackboy, has anybody stayed at any of the two hotels listed.

Cartagena Plaza and Hotel Caribe are well established Cartegena Hotel-Resorts with lots of security so you shall be "safe", from either Hotel you can purchase guided tours of the city by day.

Oh, as for the "weather" in the beginning of February 2006, there is "wunderground" Weather Underground on the Internet hourly updates world wide, no body on this forum nor any other can predict the weather for you..what do you need for your trip..a crystal ball?

dbloom it was a general question about the weather, did somebody slap you in the head since the first response, relax

Dave and Will - please try to show respect when posting in an open forum. Sharing useful information, and being able to voice one's opinion, are the things that make this site so helpful to so many.

Honestly Dave, since I live in northern Illinois, I would have asked about the weather in Colombia in February too. In fact, when we were planning our trip to Panama (which we took this past February), I did pose the same question in this forum. I also received the answer I was looking for without the responders feeling they needed to use sarcasm. There a very few stupid questions posted on TP. If someone has the courage to ask for information, they deserve to receive a helpful answer. You can agree to disagree - just do it thoughtfully. Thank you both.

Isadora, I agree with you about the respect factor but remember respect is earned, I have posted many times on different forums regarding travel and you always run into types like dbloom, ignore them and hopefully they will go away.

I agree on the issue of respect being earned rather than just being a "given". And, most of my previous response was directed toward Dave. But, I also took the time to view his replies in other threads, prior to commenting here, and found them to be informative and useful. I have also viewed your posts, which are all contained within this thread which you started.

As the Moderator for this forum, I have done my due-diligence and do not wish for either of you to go away. I think Dave was having a bad day (I hope that's all it was anyway) and you responded. I do believe that both of you have things to offer on TP.

Now, the weather in Colombia during February should be relatively dry and hot. If not, it will be wet and hot - though not as likely. ;)

Good luck with your travel plans and enjoy your trip!!

Years past many many companies ran tours from E.Canada to Cartagena & environs.
Then rising crime and civil unrest shot that all to hell and the business died.
With the new will from the present govt to deal with security issues Colombia has again become an attractive destination.
That being said Cartagena never stopped being a fabulous welcoming thriving destination-a thrilling and enticing melange of sights/sounds/colours/textures and flavours.
Weather?
Hot as Blazes!!!
The Good News is that Canadians still have a good name among Colombians in CTG-some never stopped visiting no matter what.
The hotels in question-I have no idea try the forum on www.poorbuthappy.com.
I myself would never prebook anything for more than a night nor would I spend the whole time in CTG-too much to see/do in the area.
