You are never to old! The oldest i know that i have met was 86 with his 82 year old wife...

There only problem was that "backpacking" isn't strickly accurate as they were incapable of carrying a backpack, so had wheeled luggage, but other than that...

I am new to this forum and travel excitement. I learned quite a bit just reading the messages here. My companion and I will be visiting Australia in late July and August for a buffalo hunt in Gove. We will be arriving in Sydney and are trying to find the cheapest way to go. We'd looked at train travel for comfort and viewing the countryside in a quick way. Any ideas on jet travel from Sydney to Gove? Camel rides, etc. Any info would be so greatly appreciated. LOVED the story about the older woman traveling with a few bags. What an inspiration!

Absolutely not. I'm a female who has been backpacking for 40 years (don't ask me my age). It's entirely a matter of attitude. Just don't carry too much, and don't expect a lot of privacy, and don't expect luxury. You can do 5 backpacking trips to 1 four-star one!
