I am planning to visit Costa Rica in October 2005 fo two weeks with ny girlfriend. We plan to visit the following areas:

Monteverde + Arenal
Nicoya Peninsula
Chirripo (trek to the summit)

Any advice would be very helpful!!

Arenal is very nice! If you can stay in the Hostel in Fortuna (has a great view of the volcano) as it is supposedly quite cheap and nice. We ended up staying in cheap accomodation that was really damp and so all our clothes ended up damp!

Definitely do the Jungle tour and try and visit the hotsprings (which are usually included in a jungle tour).

Also worth going zip-lining through the jungle if you like that sort of thing!

Get an up to date guide book or two specific to CR and a good map. Read up. Then surf the web: just put Costa Rica + Travel into Google and other Search engines and you'll get hundreds of sites in English, to narrow your search add to Costa Rica + Monteverde + Arenal
Nicoya Peninsula
Chirripo etc.

If you do your homework you'll be well prepared. Most of the folks who use this forum and similar forums are first or second time travelers themselves...this is sound advice for anybody whether traveling to Andorra or Zanzibar! As for the weather that is also on the Internet as well as the 2 English Language Newspapers in CR "The Tico Times" and "Costa Rica Today" find em yourself!
