hello everyone

my name is shums and I am from Colombo Sri Lanka. This seems to be a great site with like minded travellers and those who love travelling and seeing new places.

I'm glad to be a new member of the site and am very happy to be of help regarding Sri Lanka if need be.

I have just returned from sailing in Greece and highly recommend it. It helps of course if you know someone who has a sailing licence as the alternative is to pay for a skipper. So since then and inspite of quite a few 'dramas' at sea; I must say that sailing has been added to my list of things I want to do in the future. I have travelled throughout Europe (but not enough) and a bit of SE Asia.

Take care and enjoy the adventures!!

hi wonderful TP people. what does it take to get promoted from a budding member to a respected member? I am not even talking about being a travel guru here.. does it help to be sociable? hee hee... I guess it depends on the numebr of posts?

hi wonderful TP people. what does it take to get promoted from a budding member to a respected member? I am not even talking about being a travel guru here.. does it help to be sociable? hee hee... I guess it depends on the numebr of posts?

See here for more info: Promotions

You will go from Budding Member to Full Member to Respected Member to Travel Guru. BUT, it's not as easy as it may sound. The whole promotional system is based on algorithmic calculations and include number of posts, types of posts, forums posted in, photos uploaded, and some other hocus-pocus stuff that the Administrators threw in just for kicks!! (Kidding on the hocus-pocus part.) Though it is really a lot of fun to participate in, the posts in the Off Topic forum are not included in the calculations either. Anyway - the above link and links within that thread will give you the lowdown on how the system works.

And yes, being sociable does help, along with bribes consisting of large quantities of chocolate and/or martinis offered to administrators and moderators! ;)

Hey Shums

Welcome to TP. Did you bring any chocolate? If so, guard it with your life...there are some very, shall we say, chocolate-oriented people here who know a lot about travel too!!!

Oohhh, sailing the Grrek Isles...sounds like fun....
