I posted the following message in the Asia forum, but have decided to post it here to open up discussions on other continents that I had perhaps not considered. Therefore, I'm now open to suggestions for any country, no matter if it's in Asia or not.
I'm 19 years old and have just spent my first university summer in India. I worked in Jaipur for 7 weeks and had a fantastic time. I travelled through the organisation AIESEC, which sends students on internships around the world.
I plan to go away with AIESEC again next summer. Even though I have never backpacked, I instinctively feel that staying put and working in one place is the best option for me. I rarely felt homesick in Jaipur - probably because I gained a sense of familiarity and became close to many people.
I grew to love India and her people, and although I plan to return someday, my university summers are limited and so I want to travel and work somewhere else next year. I would like to stay in Asia, though. I will have about 10-11 weeks.
Would anybody be able to recommend a good place to stick around in? (City and country, if not just country.) I loved the kind natures of Indians, and would like to find somewhere else with a similarly warm culture. I don't drive, so a good public transport system is necessary. Does anybody have a suggestion?
Many thanks! Looking forward to your replies.
Your thread in the Asia forum may be deleted. TP has a rule about double posting the same thread in two different forums. But, since you also explained your reasoning behind it, I'm not sure how it will be handled. I just thought you should be made aware of that possibility. I'm sure you will get lots of answers - and since you are now open to any country - this forum is your best place for this thread.

something doesn't stick here
more like self-promotional post
Please don't feel that the previous two posts are the norm here.
Travllerspoint is full of friendly helpful folks who would love to help you with any questions you may have!
Again, Welcome to Travellerspoint!
(Wish I could be of assistance, but my travels are limited )
more like self-promotional post
Being the Moderator for this forum, I have read this and the Asia forum version of it and I disagree. Not everyone has an agenda for self-promotion. (Sound familiar, MASSAGEUK???)
Again, I will let this one stand on it's own merit. But, I will say this... Samantha, if you are truly not seeking the information you state you are - then TP is not the place for you. However, if you are indeed looking for information that I suspect you are, then TP is a warm welcoming home away from home. I agree with CC (CupCake), TP is just chock full of friendly and knowledgeable people. I hope you find answers that suit you needs.
Sound familiar, MASSAGEUK
No, it does not.
MASSAGEUK, I don't understand your first message. What doesn't "stick"? Secondly, I was just looking for some ideas for where to go next summer, as I know that lots of people here are well travelled. How is that self promotional?
Isadora, why did you question my intent, when I can't see anything to question? I would have thought that deleting the two nuisance messages from MASSAGEUK would have been your first step as a moderator, rather than adding to the tension by questioning the author about a perfectly normal message. What a strange forum - I now feel quite unwelcome here, and I'm certain that I've done nothing wrong.
Well, if what CupCake and Isadora say is true - that there are some great people here - I'd love to hear about any places that you've travelled to that you would recommend to me. Has anybody been to Romania? How did you find the country?
What happened here? These posts seem really hostile to me!
I was looking for the corresponding thread in the Asia forum but didn't find it, so I assume it has been deleted already... To be honest, I can't really see the problem with the initial question.
Samantha, welcome! Seems like you've been bitten by the travel bug!Hopefully this haven't scared you off. To answer your question: If there's any country in the world I could recommend with all my heart, it's New Zealand. Awesome nature, friendly people, nice climate, no dangerous animals, convenient size, good infrastructure...
Welcome to TP.
God you're so lucky having worked in India. I'd love to do that!! What kind of work did you do?
How about Beijing, China?
