Hi,

According to my experience, travel by train is the cheapest, as none of the low-cost airlines fly to Frankfurt from Munich. According to Rail Europe, the ticket for one person would be about $100, which is not bad at all for that distance. Unless you find somebody who is willing to take you along in the car, I don't think you will find anything cheaper than the train.

Good luck!

Hi Sean,

here in Germany we have a great and cheap network (way cheaper than using the ridiculously expensive train) of lifts offered through the internet. The one I always use as it is completely for free is http://www.mitfahrgelegenheit.de. All you need to do is enter the day you want to leave and the destination you want to go to and get in touch with the person who's offering the lift. It's usually the best to ring them to get a first impression. All you do then, is share the fuel to your destination. I've used this system of lifts many times, never had any problems or felt unsafe (the people are advertising in public...) and I have met many nice people on trips to other cities within Germany. One last advice, if you end up with people who want to tell you their lifestory, sit in the back of the car and pretend to be sleeping ;).

hope this helps,

Steff

seanyboy,

If you want more accurate prices than that stupid raileurope site check out www.bahn.de or www.railsaver.com They give a more accurate price of what it will cost you.

Sean,

If time is not neccesarily of the essence then I would have to whole heartedly agree with Steff. I´ve use the oranized hitch network as the best or most inexpensive way to get around Germany. I use this site exclusivly and can say it has only worked perfectly.

www.mitfahrzentrale.de

Last tmie I payed 20 Euro to get from Berlin to München and the guy drove avg. 170kph and it took less then 4 hours. He also had alot of interesting and strange things to say, I think he was some sort of molecular biologist shamanist or something.
