Speaking of visas, I'm thinking of going to Italy to study Italian (hopefully next year, if things work out). Can anyone advise about visa issues, and whether I am able to work part-time over there? I'm from Singapore. I'll also be doing a check with the Italian embassy here, but any advice/information is greatly appreciated.

Hey Blue! Welcome to TP!

I think you are a bit more specific about the countries you are interested in and/or planning to travel to, members will be able to give you more in depth help. ;)

Hi
UK passport holders visiting other countries in 90% of cases if visiting as a tourist will get a 30 day tourist stamp on their passport at place of entry, you do not require a Visa before arriving.
Notable exceptions are Vietnam,Russia,China,Burma,India???!!!!!.
You dont need a visa for South/Central America or USA and most of Asia for visits of less than 30 days.
If you do go into a country and like it then before the 30 days is up go across the nearest border on a daytrip and come back and your passport is stamped and valid for another 30days.
My guidebook for traveling the world is Lonely Planet and it has all the passport/visa information at the tip of my fingers when traveling, it has connections at top of page,"above" at links, travel help and destinations.Travel agents can help for any quierys.
A few UK Goverment websites for UK passport holders to check before going are listed below.
1)www.fco.gov.uk
2)www.ukps.gov.uk
3)www.passport-application.gov.uk
