Hi everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice from ppl who've been to Easter Island!

It's somewhere I've always wanted to visit, and at the moment I'm checking out return airfares from Santiago. The cheapest I can find in Feb 2006 is around US$500

I'm trying to decide if its worth spending this much on it. I would love to see it, but its quite a chunk of cash for just 2 or 3 days there.

Any advice??

Hi Eve

I haven't been at easter island yet, but from my basic knowledge and oppinion, i think you be gratefull if you went there. I'm going there late november or early december.
I've seen some of your lateste posts and it seems that you only doing SA, another way around could be arriving easter island from Santiago and then leave again to Tahiti.
Just a suggestion:-) Hope you figure out what's best for you.

Eve, if you are going to be in Santiago (although Easter Island isnt necessarily close), I dont think I would leave without visiting it. If you can swing the expense, I would go for it. I have a whole article on a recent National Geographic Magazine, I was at awe. Then again, I am at awe of any place I havent seen yet . Let us know what you make out with the plans!

THanks Anne, yeah I think so too. If I save like mad between now and the time I leave, I could probably save an extra €500.

Aside from the financial aspect, it also seems a bit nuts to get to Santiago, fly out to Easter Island for 3 days, back to Santiago, continue on my travels to Patagonia, Argentina and Brazil, and then fly back to Santiago for a connecting flight to Auckland!

I'm sure there's a better way of doing it....

Hi Ev,
You should get onto Lan Chile airlines, but I don't think there is a flight from Easter island direct to Auckland from Santiago.
I believe it will have to be a return trip from Santiago.
I wouldn't imagine too many Aussies or Kiwis flying the long haul to Santiago from Auckland would enjoy a 1-2 hour stopover in Easter island on an 11-13 direct flight (or in reverse).
We did Auckland to Santiago, and it was a LONG and DIRECT flight.
Nice airline though.
Actually, if they had that stop on Easter island on our way from Auckland to Santiago back in late January we would have dropped off for a day or two to check it out.

I'm sure you're right Anthony! It's definitely looking like a return flight, but if I stay out there for at least 3 nights, it will be worth it I suppose.

THanks for the help. By the way, checked out the new pics! They are great

I´ve been in Easter Island, and its a very nice place, just dont think that there is much to do, its very very calm. I think that 4-5 days is enought, maybe a week. You can get there by LAN chile, check, its called ISLA DE PASCUA, and there is just a promotion that students pay a bit less (around 350 usd) than adults (around 400 usd).

Anyway, if you need any help, or even pictures that i took, just tell me, and if you have time, include Easter Island, you will probably go there once during a lifetime.
