Hi Hannah,

Thanks for that! :)

So, you think I should have booked for longer then? I really only have two full days on the island, as I arrive late on the first day and leave early on the 4th.

How big is the island? Is it easy to cover most of it in two days in your opinion?

Thanks,

Ev ;)

Ok you're gonna have your work cut out for you! Hire a car, maybe with someone else... I did this for my last day so that we could get around the island and see everything that I hadn't so far. If you can't share it may be cheaper to join a tour group for a day, they'd take you to the must-sees and leave you a day to check out the rest...

I insisted on hiking up the volcano near town (quicker by car, especially in that heat) and going horseriding for a day (totally amazing but not the most efficient way to see the island)

Is it expensive out there, e.g. to go horseriding, rent a car?

(I'll leave you alone after this - promise! )

It depends where you're comparing it to...

It was the most expensive place I went to in S. America, including Santiago. However the prices were cheaper than England (as you'd hope).

It's pricy because they used to have stuff shipped out from Chile, then the boat broke and was never fixed so everything on Easter Island that didn't come out of the earth was flown there by airplane!

And if the food/ fuel etc is pricy so's everything else.

I'm afraid I was there last November so can't give specifics...
I promise that whatever you spend, it will be worth the memories!

By the way, you don't need to have a place booked to stay before you get there (just check it's not during Chilean school holiday season)

I'll be arriving at the end of the festival Rapanui, so I was wondering if I'd be better booking in advance. Might just play it by ear and see when I get there. :)

Thanks for the info Hannah. You should consider being a travel helper for South America ;)

No worries, have fun!

I'm sure the easter islanders will still be partying and you'll have an amazing time!

Hmmmm I'll think about your suggestion, I might now know S. America but I'm not sure how reliable I am ;)

I am going to easter island too. Got it as part of my round the world package. Does anyone know where is a good place to stay?

Cheers Ben
