Funny. I know it might take alot to get a law instituted but it only take's one veto to knock it out. Saw they were able to shoot down the ammendment for same sex marriages in California just yesterday. They should have asked if he would let the law be pushed through before going through all the official voting and ballot counting.

Part of politics is to pander to your core constituents; keeping them happy. Both sides do this regularly. Mr. Bush tries to keep the religious right happy or at least mollified. John Kerry had the backing of the education and trial lawyers, hence his rhetoric that plays to that crowd. The Calif. legislature goes on record of being in favor of gay couples having legal standing. Of course you know that the govenor's veto can be overridden with a 2/3 majority in both chambers, that is unlikely.

We have this type of government because of our experience with British kings. Checks and balances on the three main branches of gov't; legislative, executive & judicial. Not all power in one branch. It has worked pretty well for over 200 years. Not perfect, but better than most other examples worldwise.

Don't you sometimes just wish that political "beefs" could be settled the old fashioned way? I'd pay good money to see old GW and Michael Moore go at it mono-y-mono in an Ultimate Fighting cage match. Now, that Bush is small and wirey, but I bet he fights real dirty and if possible would tag out to one of his buddies (ideally Gov. Swartznegger or even Cheney for his mind-control powers). And that Michael Moore, pound for pound, I bet he could kick some ass, but he'd be certain to tire after a while. That's when he'd pull out the old head-lock maneuver and let the anti-war moms work Bush over while he caught his breath.

Winner take all, the rest of us just shut up and watch. Preferably with lots of beer.

Oh yeah, you'd also have to have some great undercard matches like. . .
Kanye West vs. Bill O'Reilly (okay, that wouldn't be much of a fight)
Jon Stewart vs. Tucker Carlson
Others?

And can't we all just agree that the Simpsons started it all, the Family Guy made it better and American Dad just tried to rip them both off and failed miserably.

All of our political beef wrapped up into TV cartoons. That's perfect. I agree. I think I'll let Moe state my political opinions from now on.:)

I think Arnold Shwartsanddagger (spelling?) will be it

Yeah, I'm sure his good buddy Junior Shrub will make sure that the law regarding citizenship requirements for president will be changed before he leaves office. Maybe one of those "final-days-do things-quick-acts-of-office... Could happen...

Now Isadora. I'm glad you put a smily face because anyone who knows US law would laugh at your suggestion. Perhaps you forgot that to change a Constitutional amendment it takes a 2/3 majority, in both chambers, and 3/4 of the state legislatures have to pass it in a certain number of years as well? The ERA amendment did not pass the required state legislatures in the amount of time allowed. You do remember that fight don't you Isadora? What chance would this idea have? Slim to none and slim left town.

With Mr. Schwarzenegger's current poll numbers, it seems doubtful he could get reelected govenor. Perhaps you just needed to get a few Bush jibes in to stay in good fighting trim?

It was meant in humor, Mike. I am quite aware of what is required for Constitutional changes and what Arnie's poll numbers look like currently. I also remember the ERA battles quite clearly. Though, I can take a few jabs at the other side too... One side is no better or worse than the other over time.

But, the civics lesson is good for helping others understand our system a bit better. ;)
