Christmas Holiday planning

Travel Forums Europe Christmas Holiday planning

I am living in Sweden for a year and I wont be able to return home for the christmas holidays and I have been told NOT to stay in the town I am in because it gets really depressing.
So my plan is to do some travelling around Europe. I have at least 10 days break (maybe more). My question is how do I go about planning a trip with multiple destinations? Should I buy all my plane/train tickets before hand, or just buy them when the time comes?

Also, the one place I really want to go to is Greece, but I am having trouble deciding on 1 or 2 other destinations. Any suggestions of good places around that part of Europe (near Greece)?

Thanks,
Katrina

I'm planning to be in Paris on Chrismas and then I'll have 5 days to meet New Year in Milano. Hope it's nice there...

Don't know where in Sweden you live, but I live in Gothenburg and I think that it actually is quite lively round christmas.. Maybe not christmas eve when most people are at home with their familys, (cause in Sweden we celebrate and exange gifts on the 24th instead of the 25th). But christmas day is qite a party night.. But if you want to leave the country and don't feel like travelling so far I can really recommend Copenhagen, Denmark, wich is a really great city. It's much nicer than the swedish capital city..

I am an exchange student in Uppsala and I have no close family in Sweden (or the rest of Europe for that matter) so I figured since I wouldnt be around my family during Christmas I should go somewhere that has more sun (maybe I wont be so sad then!).

And also I think that the majority of students leave during christmas so there wont be anyone where I live anyways
