Am planning to do a bit of solo travelling and would like to get out of Europe. The problem is that I don't have the courage to book a flight to the depths of Africa...or any of the other relatively dangerous places that intregue me..
Does anyone have any tips as to interesting countries, that will satisfy my thirst for culture etc, that aren't doo daunting, or difficult to settle into, for an unseasoned traveller?
Your best bet would be to try Thailand as its very friendly, cheap and plenty of travellers as you would start in Bangkok in Khao San Rd and explore Bangkoks many cultural sights.
Then the Bridge on the River Kwai and the death railway just outside Bangkok and by that time you will be a seasoned traveller,NO FEAR.
And then jump a bus to many many places as very cheap and easy and with Lonely Planet South East Asia all your questions are answered as you turn the page.
I'am heading that way end of Dec so might see you on de road, have a great trip.

marocco, algeria, egypt or Turkey should be easy - some budget airlines go there.
South east asia is good - but flights more expensive.
does South Central LA intrigue? or try the Bronx - London to NYC is cheap now
or seriously - do the Trans Siberian for adventure. In the Winter to really get the feel for True Russia experience!
I'd second Morocco for that. It's close to Europe so if you freak out then Spain is only a 40 euro boat ride away and it has the culture thing but with a hint of familiarity due to the French past (great bread!). Wherever you go just take an open mind and you'll have a ball.
I agree with Thailand.. also Malaysia is great
I loved egypt.. but you are a girl travelling alone, and though it sounds sexist, you may be wise to be wary of Morocco Egypt or those sort of places. warm welcome in Malaysia.. its a lovely place..
