Hi, I am staying in Los Angeles for 2 days later this month enroute to Australia I would appreciate any advice tips on what to see and do. Also this is my first time in USA so I would love to hear any experiences of people who have been especially for a similar amount of time. Thankyou in advance.
I spent a day in Santa Monica and a day on Venice Beach. Great fun! Especially if you like sun, sand and sea!
If the weather is nice, go to the Huntington Library one day--it's actually more of a collection of beautiful gardens (I think seven different themes--Roses, Japanese (Zen and Bonsai), Australian, Lily Ponds, Deserts, Shakespeare, and Sculptures) covering parks with a person's home and facinating library located in the middle. Henry Huntington was the nephew of one of the founders of the Southern Pacific Railroad, and so had the money to put this all together.
I see where they are also about to open a new conservatory on October 7th. See here: http://www.huntington.org/ for more information. Pictures are at: http://www.huntington.org/VRTour/VRTours.html
Another interesting place is the Getty Museum--possibly the largest (and most expensive) collection of art outside the Louvre. Go here for details:http://www.getty.edu/visit/
And, of course, there is always Disneyland, Seven Flags Magic Mountain, the beach, or side trips to San Diego, Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, or Rosarito Beach (in Mexico).
Oh, I also forgot to mention the Universal Studios Tour (and amusement park)in Hollywood. There is also a "Citywalk" located just outside the park itself--and they also have major concerts there--check listing for artists.
I just got back from my RTW and I was similar to you and had a couple of days in Los Angeles! If I were you I would probably reccomend staying in the Venice or Santa Monica areas rather than the Hollywood way...I had a bad experience staying in a shady hostel in what claimed to be Venice Beach(Its called the "Venice Marina Hostel") and I advise you avoid it like the plague! If poss try and book somewhere online or something rather than just arrive and being advised these sketchy places!I was lucky and some friends of a friend came to rescue me!
I sepnt one day exploring Venice and Santa monica which was cool, really nice up there and true Californian I feel!!!!I spent the other day around Hollywood, which I have to admit there wasnt a great deal to do there so I kind of relied on a couple of trips, I did a trip of Beverly Hills seeing all the stars houses, the hotel where they filmed Pretty Woman, Melrose, Sunset Blvd.......so It was cool!Hope this helps!Have fun!!!!Oh yeah and if you stay in that area like Marina Del Rey/ Venice theres a really great ice cream place called Coldstone where you choose what you want in your ice cream and they mush it all up for you!!!!so yummy!!!!
