I plan to visit Egypt between Dec 24 and Jan 3 at the end of the year. I have a few questions with regard to my trip:
1) Is there a website at which I can view train schedules and fares within Egypt?
2) Is there a website for 'Nile Cruise' options? I plan to do the cruise from Aswan to Luxor. I do not want to do this as part of some package-holiday thing. Any suggestions would be welcome.
It would be great if I could receive some responses to these questions. Thank you.
all touristy places will be packed with package tours - book well in advance for better price. There might be no places left when you are in Egypt.
nights are cold this time of the year (especially by the river or on the desert). Book accommodation with hot water to soak in the bath.
trains are cheap - but not many of them. Can't be booked online - just from the station a few days in advance.
Try here for trains: http://touregypt.net/trains.htm#Cairo%20to%20Luxor%20and%20Aswan
For Nile Cruise you'll probably have to go through an Egyptian tour operator as there are so very many boats. And, as the other poster said, you'll need to book well in advance to get a place. Just tell them what you what to do and what your budget is as there are a lot of options. I used Tut Egypt Tours http://www.tutegypt.com
This is a short "thank you" for those of you that responded to my post.
I'm goin to Egypt 7-21 Dec, also wanted to do a nile cruise,
search "fulucca", (small traditional sailboat), looks better than the old 5* touristy cruises. They are part of a package though but the excursions are optional so you can just take the cruise and see the rest on your own time. Try the following: http://www.oneworldtours.plus.com
Hope this is of some help to you...
That really was a good website. I wish I had seen it earlier. The thing is, I am in a bit of a bind. I only have 9 full days in Egypt so the felucca ride may not be an option for me. It might take me way too long to do the Aswan-Luxor trip. I personally don't like the 5-star touristy thing but this time, at least for the cruise, it almost seems like I have no choice. I am wondering where I could do a felucca ride. I might do one short stretch right after my cruise at Luxor. Once again, thanks a lot for your reply to my post. There is a lot of good stuff on the oneworldtours website.
If you are interested in the felucca they are very flexible and will alter the tours to suit your exact needs. I think I saw one for 3 days sailing from Aswan to Luxor.
