We need help! Me and two of my girlfriends will be traveling in end of Dec through early January '06 and we'd love any advice on where to go/see and possible itineraries. It'll be my first time to SE Asia and I can't wait! If anyone is there during that time, we'd be up for meeting and ringing in the new year!!!

depending how much time you have - but stay for a week/few days in each place.

Bangkok sightseeing, Chang Mai trekking, Angko Wat marvelling + some time laysing on the beach.

it's a high season in SE Asia - arrive early in the morning to book an accommodation.

Nights can be cold in nothern parts of Thailand/Vietnam - take a jumper.

Fly from Bkk to Hanoi, spend a day or 2 here, then go to Sapa on an overnight train and trek in the beautiful mountains for a couple of days, then train back to Hanoi, from Hanoi go to Halong Bay (about 3 hours by bus), overnight in Halong Bay staying on a boat. Open bus ticket to Saigon from Hanoi, stopping at Hue, Hoi An for a couple of days then hit Saigon. Have 2 or 3 days in Saigon. Then have a trip to the mekong for an overnight stay, then pick up the boat to Phnom Penh next day. Couple of days in Phnom Penh to seet the killing fields at Chuong Ek, Tuol Sleng, and just generally seeing Phnom Penh. Then boat up to Siem Reap for a few days at Angkor Wat, then fly or bus back to Thai depending on your budget. Then you will be ready for some beach time in Thailand. You can do Vietnam in 2 weeks and Cambodia in 5/6 days. Sapa and Halong Bay are the definites in Vietnam and Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Send me a pm if you want prices on specifics, i'm off to Angkor Wat on friday, going from Saigon by bus/boat so i can find out what you need.

Hi
Your best bet is just to use bus's in Thailand as they and the roads are state of the art so everywhere you want to go you can get their cheap and fast. Use bus/minibus's in Cambodia but the pothole/dusty broken bridge roads are a great laugh experience!!!.
Start/stay Khao San Rd;Bangkok and explore Bangkok then jump a bus 0800 morning and head down the Pattaya coast to Trat max 4hrs on bus per day and jump off as and when as islands and beaches all the way.
Cross border into Cambodia and stay Sihanoukville beach town then minibus/bus to Phenom Penh for a couple of days then bus/boat/speedboat/bus to Ho Chi Minh City(Saigon) which is a wonderful trip.A few days HCM then up the coast to Vung Tu by boat then back by bus!!! then back to Phenom Penh and then go up to Angkor Wat by boat and Kamikasa minibus on the dusty rd to Angkor Wat(do not miss) then minibus to cowboy border town of Poipet then !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! depending on time left the next plan is up to the 3 chics from Uncle Sam. Lonely Planet South East Asia has all the travel and accom facts for this trip.
Have a great trip and if you want might meet up as I fly into Bangkok 29-12-08(English Calender)but heading stright for Pattaya(badboy town) for New Year then will head for Cambodia appox 4-1-05(4th-JAN-05); al de bes
