Hi

I've not been to northern Ireland but can tell you that cost of living in Rep of Ireland can be quite high. It rains all the time but not in a depressing way - which is probably because of the attitude of the people. Everyone is cheery and nice no matter what the weather is doing which is a lovely change from how it can get in the UK where everyone seems to get SADD and cranky in winter.
Ireland is unique and if you go to Belfast make sure you get out and see as much of the emerald isle as you can because it is the most amazing country - it will blow you away.

Speaking from a working holiday perspective make sure about what you need to get in terms of bank accounts and tax numbers etc and see what you can arrange from home. Especially bank accounts. If you have one before you go you will save yourself a heck of a lot of time and hassle because they often want 3 years history of where you have lived etc and they can get a bit terse if you say 'in another country' whereas if you can get an international account through your bank or someone like HSBC they set it up while you are at home and its not too much trouble. They will want to see your passport etc so make sure you set up the account before yousend off your passport for your visa.

Other than that look for groups like BUNAC who may help you find accommodation, jobs etc as well as offer lots of chances to meet other travellers and go on fun arranged tours etc.

Best of luck:)
