Hi
Go to links at top right corner of this page and just scroll around for whatever help you might require.
www.insureandgo.co.uk??? or .com which travellerspoint reccomend at left hand of this page might help but you need a 3-6 month trip cover so try your local town insurance high st offices for that as you are from Canada.
You have to get a map and see where you want to start and finish!!!! and the best guide book with lots of great help for maps, accom and travel tips be it bus or train is Lonely Planet Euorpe.
Then check out Airlines for the cheapest fare but I suspect Paris or Rome might be the cheapest fare for you and check out can you have fly out from a different airport than the one you landed at.
Just sit down with LP map and browse thinking where you want to see and make a rough plan then check out prices, all the best and have a great trip.

It can be very tough to plan a trip because there is so much information out there. If you'd like to stick to Southern Europe, that's a great way of doing it. If you know any Spanish it might make sense to start in Spain and move East where you can eventually fly out of Athens. I think this is manageable for 2-3 months, but you will have to start picking out a few key destinations. One of my favorite sites for inspiration is:

Rick Steves

There is a manageable amount of good information there.

Pick out some places that sounds really cool and begin circling them on a map. Pretty quickly you will see how everything fits together or doesn't fit together :).

This site has sample itineraries for the main cities so you can get an idea of how much time you should allow for each place.

Fodor's

The last thing I can think of is to remember to keep your schedule loose. Avoid reservations. That way you can go wherever you want as you discover new things. Often, I will just ask around when I arrive in a new town.

Happy planning!

Hi!!
I've heard about a new coach network traveling within Spain & Portugal for backpacking enthusiasts called Eurohop - www.eurohop.eu.

I checked on their webpage and they are doing some great discounts.

- Eastern Route, including Madrid-Zaragoza- Barcelona-Valencia and back to Madrid = 50 pounds sterling only.

- Lands of the Sun Route, including Madrid- Toledo-Granada-Cordova-Seville-Lagos-Lisbon-Salamanca- and back to Madrid = this route costs right now around 115 pounds sterling.

I learnt that tickets are valid until 30 September. Travelers can hop on and hop off whenever they want, without additional charges. Coaches stop in each destination every two days; and they have onboard guides to give tips about alternative places to visit, entertainment activities, sites to explore...and they have agreements with the best hostels for backpackers in each destination.
