Anyone know if you can buy chinese train tickets online in advance? Barring that, anyone ever gone from Nanning to Shanghai? How hard was it to get tickets? How much does it cost, and how long a trip is it?

Thanks,

Dave

Google for "China Railway" and you'll get some results that you want.

Why don't you go to 'Travel Help' and ask some of the members that live in China? They have first hand knowledge.

I spent six weeks in China four months ago and I think you can buy them online but they cant be sent outside of China, only to a guesthouse or hotel in China. They're also MUCH more expensive this way. Best thing is to get to Nanning and either go to a travel agency and get them to book it for you for an extra $3-$5 commission, or brave the train station yourself. If you do it yourself you might have to wait a day or two to get a seat / sleeper, but travel agencies can normally get it for you for the next day at the latest. Have fun !

Check this site out.

A quite amazing site considering it's non commercial and the guy doing it has simply done it in his own time and for everyone else's benefit.
