Well, you seems to have rather strange vision of Russia... I agree with you absolutely about the absence of the service in airport as well as everywhere. If you don't speak russian and don't have some guide with you it is very hard to be a tourist there. I bymyself was surprised that in Moscow there are not much signes in english, and as i can judge for the replies of people in the forum - not so much people in Russia willing to speak english with foreigner (I never tried to speak english in russia so i can rely only on somebodies opinion). And yes, in airport and other government services the people seems to be not very friendly!
But i am really surprised that you have found St.Petersburg as a very unfriendly city. Because in reality it is one of the most friendliest cities in the western Russia... much freiendlier than Moscow!! The only explanasion i can found for it is that probably you used to live in village or small town, as in small towns people always seems to be very friendly... the same was with me when i was in USA. I lived for 4 months in rather small vilage where people seemed to me very friendly, but when i came in NY i understood what does real rudeness mean - people seemed to be very annoyed even by telling you the right direction. I think it is more problem of cities than of the country...
And as for russian women... hmm.. maybe you hang out not in the right company as the fashion on "having-sex-only-with-whom-you-love" has gone long time ago and now a lot of russian girls are having sex only in order to have sex! but it is mostly for young generation, of course.
And the same for the dressing - youngsters are always dressed in a bright colors.. When i am reading such posts about grey color it seems to me that the person just have seen an american film about Soviet Union, as in such films russians are always wear grey!! But that is not true! If somebody don't belive - go and cheque and you will see!!!
And the last thing - why it is so bad to take a lot of photos? I don't find it bad... if person likes it, why not to give her/him the right to do what he/she wants?!!
