I'm attending school this semester at LSU in Baton Rouge, LA and would love to take a roadtrip to Mexico sometime during my stay here. Obviously, I'd have to drive through Texas to get there, but does anyone know of any interesting, unique cities that are relatively close to the border? I won't have much time to travel, maybe only an extended weekend or something, and the drive to Mexico is 12-14 hours from here, I believe, so I don't want to be on the road the WHOLE time Thanks in advance!
Don't know border towns near Texas that well--but both Monterrey (history and major northern town) and San Luis Potosi (cultural center) are interesting to visit. If you can afford it, get an airfare to Cancun over spring break--as a college student, you'll definitely enjoy yourself.
Oh, I forgot to mention--make sure you buy Mexican insurance if you cross the border with your car or a rental--American insurance companies all make sure their policies don't cover cars taken across the border to Mexico.
