I will be arriving in Sydney on December 18th this year & need 2stay in a cheap hostel, I will be staying for a few weeks over christmas & until after the new year & will be booking for the whole time now, so really need to find somewhere good if I am paying in advance & staying so long.
I have looked on the net at quite a few hostels & their reviews & alot of them seem to be really bad! Can anyone reccomend anywhere? Beached at Bondi seems to be the only one that doesnt have any bad reviews but then it doesnt have many reviews either, has anyone stayed there?
Hopefully someone can help me!!
Cheap hostel and Xmas don't really go together. Its peak season down there at that time. Be prepared to pay a deposit by credit card for a minimum 7-day stay.
Anyway, this is my neighbourhood so
Lamrock Lodge: www.lamrocklodge.com is really good and 1 minute to the beach. Phone + 61 2 9130 5063
Bondi Beachhouse YHA: www.bondibeachhouse.com.au; again, really good, but a whopping 5 minute walk to the beach
Noahs Bondi Beach is the bigger of the hostels. http://www.nomadsworld.com/productdetail.asp?backpack=Noahs+Bondi+Beach. Its 1.45 seconds at a steady trot to the sand.
Indys is my fav as its off the main street and quiet: http://www.indysbackpackers.com.au
Hope this helps. Get in early. If you have no luck with these places let me know and I'll dig a bit deeper for you.
Thanks so much for your help!
I looked into the hostels you told me about & found that Bondi Beachouse YHA had really great reviews!! I tried to book it... but it was completely fully booked
All of the rest seem to have pretty poor reviews, I mean they look to be great party hostels which is good, but they seem to be really really dirty!! Im sure this is something I will get used to, but with it being my 1st time in a hostel I would kind of like to start off in a nice one!
Sorry to be a pain but do you have any more suggestions? Do you know how far Beached At Bondi is from the beach?! If not, I will try & book into one of those, I think id better be quick too as they are getting full up!!
I actually stayed at Lamrock lodge nearly 3 years ago when i was in Oz for 5 weeks and it was ok. showers were clean and the rooms were good, and like majito said bondi is like 2 min walk away!! which is a bonus
Manly is a good alternative to Bondi, if you want to be away from the city a bit more. Large international backpacker community and a bit more laid back. Easy ferry ride to Sydney if you are going to work there.
I agree... Manly is a fantastic spot. All the beaches are essentially connected, you can walk for hours and get from one to the other on the trails. Sydney's transit system is also really great, so staying outside of Bondi doesn't mean that it will be difficult to get to. I lived in Manly for three months, and much preferred it to the month I spent living in Bondi.
