Koh Tao is great for diving, lots of companies there so lots of choice. I went with Easy Divers and they were great. Bear in mind you will get a much better deal if you book in the Bangkok office. My boyfriend got his open water and advanced certs, transport to and from island, beach front hut, dinner and breakfast for 6 nights for about 150GBP. Not bad hey. It's still not that expensive if you book on the island, but just easier to have it all sorted I guess.

I think you will also get your partying fix there too as there are lots of all night bars. Not a great place to soak up the Thai culture as most of the people there are European / American / Canadian etc. but a fun few days all the same.

Hope you have fun!

The Krabi area of Thailand is loaded with rock formations and dive opportunities. There are hundreds of small islands off Krabi-Phuket that can be visited via long-tail boat. You can climb the limestone cliffs of the area and have secluded beaches if that appeals to you. There are dozens of dive operators to choose from and hundreds of dive spots. 'The Beach' was filmed off of Koh Phi Phi and you may want to visit this 'unknown island'. See the movie to get a feel for the area. Good Luck.

Bangkok has lots of bars. Beer bars (simple bars usually open to the air) are pretty cheap. GoGo bars can be found in Pat Pong and the Nana entertainment complex, Sukhumvit Soi 4. Also in the Soi Cowboy area. Bangkok has "rapid transport system" called the Skytrain, it's something like subway but overhead . It's easy to use, you can save taxi money if you get a hotel near the line. Taxis are cheap anyway, only pay the meter price. Lots of taxis around, it's the law - they are supposed to use the meters. Taxi bargaining by foreignors (Farangs) usually means you will pay more than what the meter would be.

It's around 110 baht to get to Pattaya by bus from Bangkok. Hotels in Pattaya are usually cheaper than Bangkok, several hotels serve all you can eat breakfast buffets for around 85 to 95 baht ($2.00 - $2.30 U.S.) Lots of other cheap restaurants too. GoGo bars, beer bars, restaurants are easy to get to. Thai boxing available available too. Cheap transportation, around 10 baht (.25 U.S.) for foreignors.

There are tours/transportation to many areas that offer diving. Can't remember any places for climbing though. Para-sailing available too. Check out a good travel guide before you go and plan your trip and your daily budget.

Good luck.
