I'm just back from Spain. Although, I've been using my new digital camera a lot at home over the last few months, I had stuck to using the camera's own Canon memory card and hadn't encountered any difficulties with it.
At the same time as I bought the camera, I also invested in a 1Gb Fuji memory card. I used this for the first time in Spain.
Half-way through the trip, the camera started giving problems. When i would try to shoot an image, it would say "Unidentified image". When I would try to play back the photos, it would appear as if they were all lost. Only when I turned off the camera, took out the memory card and reinserted it, would it work again.
I had to keep doing this every day eventually. Very annoying.
The card cost me €150 and I bought it specifically for my travels
Any advice anyone? Has anyone else had a similar problem?
You should bring it back to the shop you bought it in, they should be able to explain any faults etc..... or when you are ''sick'' for the tp meet up in Dublin you should ask the guys in Conns cameras near Grafton street, they're really helpful...
Cameras always have disclaimers about them only being guaranteed to work with certain memory cards (and then a list of those that the camera has been tested with), but this is the first time I've heard about any problems.
What I would do - after taking all the images off the card - is reformat it using the camera's function for this. (Somewhere in the menu will be an option "format...") I'd give you a better than even chance that this will fix the problem completely. If not, I'd return it to the store and try to exchange it for a different brand.
Okay, that seems to have done the trick. Thanks Sander!
(I expect my two truckloads of chocolate promptly by Monday morning. )
