I have to write an essay about myself to get on it and I'm really scared

So wish me luck and any advice would be welcome!!!

Good luck Mim!!

We could all give you reasons why you should get a place on the team and then you can pick the ones you like best.

I'll start!

"Mim deserves a place on the team because she is highly skilled at building wooden huts when the need arises. You never know when she might come in handy."

No?

Don't know if this helps or not, but at a recent meeting we had with students who applied for jobs as telemarketers to raise funds for their university, they were asked what motivated them to take on the job. The vast majority had a lot to say about how it would help them - to improve their communication skills, add to their resume, help pay their expense, as so on. All of which were very valid responses.

But only one actually said he'd applied to help out the University - which he believed in and wanted to make a better place. THAT was the response that stood out the most, and which answered the mandate to a T. So - I'd say talk about yourself, but remember to add in what you yourself will be doing to help/improve/add to the place you're visiting.

Good luck!

Mim - you will write a great essay!!! Relax and just start writing. Use a bit of humor, but not so much that they don't think you are serious about the project. Did they give you guidelines?? If so, make a list of things you think should be included and work around those.

Alternative: Hire Ev or Tina to write it for you. But, they do require payment in chocolate, martinis and who knows what else...

If I write it can I go and send you post cards???

Mim deserves a place on the team because she is highly skilled at moderating those who will be building those huts to her specifications! ;)

Yay Mim, that's awesome news, what a fantastic opportunity to be given to apply for.. perhaps mention:

- Your travels so far & the desire for more
- The cultural experiences you gained from them
- The fact that you are a Moderator on a travel website
- Your hobbies such as scuba, photography, music etc
- Your outgoing personality
- Part time jobs that you have had like the bar job & why you enjoy it!

You are great, don't be afraid to let them know it

Go Mim, if you need a proof reader just holler..

Mim,
I think between Fiona and Samsara's advice you should do great. I am sure that if you really want to go it will come out in your essay and they won't be able to not have you on their team. There's no way that the trip can happen without you!

Best wishes with the essay. And leave the proof-reading to Fiona:).

Sounds amazing!! I think you'll nail it if you tell them that there is a whole community of travellers at travellerspoint that are rooting for you and otherwise someone is likely to hunt down the person in charge if they don't let you go :)
