I am going to be taking the train to both of these places and would like to know if anyone else has done so and can reccommend which class to book. There seems to be the Vistadome and Backpacker on both routes. The price difference on the Machu Picchu one is minimal but a lot larger to Puno. I would like to hear from anyone who has done the journey please. Or anyone that will be doing this journey around 14th of December.
I took the train to Macchu Picchu about one month ago and went in backpacker class which is the cheapest I think. Not that you would know it though as it was more than comfortable. I did pay $130 dollars for the privelage though.
I arrived in cusco on the Wed and had to fly out of Lima on the friday so i was very rushed and willing to pay over the odds to get there but I know it can be bought cheaper so shop around when you get to cusco and youll get an idea yourself.
Im afraid I cant help regarding the train to Puno. I took a very cold 12 hour bus instead.
Have a great trip....
Is there a cheaper yet still safe way to get to Machu Pichu? I understand hiking the Inca Trail is also very expensive. Any suggestions?
You can take a bus until km 98 if I remember well. Take the train from there to aguas calient, or you can walk the last part along the rails. Then walk in the night from aguas calientes to Macchu Picchu in the night. I was there the first visitor in the morning, and for free
