My name is Scott and I am looking to travel to Thailand and surrounding area. I was wondering if I could get some help. I am a 21 year old student and I am experienced in traveling around Europe, but I have a feeling that this could be significantly different.
I need to know some places to go during the months of July and August and how much money I should plan for (canadian or american dollars).
I would also like to know about Visas and what is my best option (buying them while there, or before I leave home)
And finally I was wondering if anybody else out there is doing a similar trip since I am going on my own and it might be nice to know somebody there
Thanks for all the help
Are you planning to stopover in Malaysia? If yes, the following information may be helpful to you.
If you are coming to Malaysia, I would be able to help you (and possibly join you too! ).
Scotty, entering thailand?
All nationals are eligible for 30 days stay in Thailand without a visa for the purpose of TOURISM. but must have valid passport.
Anyway, how long you plan to travel this time? all depend to what you are plan to do, to visit while you were there.
i'm 21 and i'm going to thailand for the month of july by myself too, and there are others in this forum who do this (check out the "travel companions"-forum!!!)
i'm not too sure about where i'm going exactly either, but since i'll land in bangkok, i'll start from there. i'm thinking about visiting the northern part first and then go south down the coast to the islands.
you can get a lot of advice and ideas in this forum, just read all the (old and new) posts on thailand...
we'll i don't know what else to tell you for now...contact me if you like and we'll share some thoughts on our enthusiastic planning
In Thailand you'll find that you can stay anywhere in Thailand except in Bangkok... And probably there too if you find the right places.. for very cheap. 1 usd used to equal around 40 or so baht if I remember correctly. In smaller towns I was able to find acceptable accomodations for around 500 - 600 Baht a night. Be wary of people offering to take you on tours on street corners and such, but don't blow them off completely. In some towns they'll be some of the only folks who speak English very well.
beam me up scotty
scotty go to www.bangkoktonight.com it will answer most of your questions.
i'm also flying into bangkok, at the end of june and am giving myself 6 weeks to get down to singapore to pick up my flight to oz. obviously i don't know what you're looking to do or see, but i plan to make maybe 3 or 4 major stops like koh samui, phuket, kuala lumpur, around which i will try to get out of the tourist traps and see some more quite and unspoilt areas... because of the changeable weather and untold adventure and tips you'll pick up on the way, i wouldn't plan too much. but by visiting those places, from bangkok i will be following a sort of pre planned path, from which i can deviate when i feel like it... take it easy though, and have fun! maybe see you or Lidia out there!?
