hi there! just a note on bintan-its not very "indonesian", the entire place is pretty much a resort for ppl coming thru from Singapore for a quick weekend. Just thot u shd know since some friends in the past were a tiny bit disappointed.

And also, i spose u already know dat Geylang Lor 4 is known locally for its "night life", if u know wat I mean.

By ferry from Singapore. It's an island in the Riau province of Indonesia but, just like thezenyen said, is commercialised by resorts. You can do things such as wind-surfing, parasailing, or just pampering yourself in a spa.

thanks zag, the link is very useful. though, could you recommend a resort for a budget traveler?

Some really cheap accommodations has no web site. Here's some info I could get:
[list]
[*]Banyu Biru Villas, located in Nirvana Gardens. Phone: +62-770-692-505

[*]BRF Holidays: http://www.brfholidays.com.sg/
Phone: +65-6293-3191

Alternatively, if you want a real Indonesian culture, you can fly to Padang (http://www.lionair.co.id, http://www.tigerairways.com/). and go to stay in Bukittinggi, a plateau with the beautiful valley called "Ngarai Sianok". You can see beautiful nature and traditional West Sumatran houses.

the cheapest way to go to KL is actually cross to Johor Bahru(the 1st place when you enter to Malaysis from Singapore) and take a bus from Johor Bahru to KL, it is about RM25. i just came back from Johor Bahru yesterday, the price is RM25. so i guess even few weeks later the price will be the same. it just it is quite troublesome to travel to Johor Bahru to take a bus. you can take MRT to Kranji MRT statation, then take a bus just opposite of MRT station number 160 or 170 to the custom, then travel all the way by this two bus number to Johor Bahru Lakin Express Bus Terminal, you can ask those staff in the bus for bus fare and direction, they are very friendly and helpful, i mean in Singapore. beware of pricing when you want to buy anything in Malaysia, because some of Malaysian are very bad, they charge foreigners differently, more expensive, even local also they do that if we don't know the price. so be firm about it and ask more people.). basically, KL is a capital of Malaysia, you can visit Petaling Street (so call Malaysia China Town), don't miss good food in Malaysia, if you can take spicy food, eat indian Roti, Malay Nasi Lemak, curry, all kind of chinese food(basically it is not spicy). enjoy your trip to Malaysia. i would advice you go to some other place in Malaysia rather than KL, like for example Penang island, bacause you can experience natural side of Malaysia, and at the same time look around the city, Penang is a city, and also having good food there. that's my advice. maybe because i am a local, i don't found any special about KL, but of course the food here are very very good. don't miss it.
