ill probably be heading to new zealand this august to work for a year so ill probably be staying in the first place i go for a month or two, i dont want to be somewhere too cold for a long period of time, does the south island get very cold and when does it start getting warmer?
in what city/towns would i have a better chance of finding work/place to live?
The south Island does get extremely cold at the time of year you are travelling. It is well known for it rugged mountains glaciers and snow.
The North Island particularily around Auckland and above is alot milder at that time of the year. If you heading over for work the capital Christchurch would be more likely, Queenstown and Dunedin woul be next best options..
Hope this helps..
I'd also add Auckland and Wellington to that list.
Queenstown is meant to be good for jobs during the winter season, but if you want to avoid staying somewhere cold then you might want to reconsider. However, if you can put up with the cold weather I would definitely recommend Queenstown for a base, as it's a total party town.
