I grew up listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffet (kind of cheesy, but hey) and I would dream about sailing around the world meeting all kinds of kooky people and getting into all sorts of interesting situations (even if that involved danger or trouble). But, unfortunatley, there isn't a huge market for pirates or explorers in the employ of the King,

John - there's nothing "cheesy" about Buffett!!!! His songs have gotten me through all sorts of things and when I really need a lift - on goes the Buffett CDs. Wanting to be a pirate came after I learned to dive. I thought being a mix of Jacques Cousteau and Captain Blood could make for an interesting career. Come to think of it - it would still make an interesting career...

Isa heads off to look for ship to highjack and sail the seven seas with her trusty horse by her side - and Beerman, of course... Who has to find his own horse...

Totally off the subject, but it reminds me of seeing Jack Johnson play in Christchurch, New Zealand. He did a cover of "A Pirate Looks at Forty" and I was near tears. All of the Kiwi's had no idea what the hell he was singing and why this crazy Yank was so into it.

Back to Evan's post, I also always thought it would be cool to be a journalist (either print or broadcast) that gets sent all over the world to cover international news. Too bad most of them seem to be such schmucks these days. . . I'm looking at you Geraldo.

I have always had the feeling that I was born in the wrong time period. When I was a kid it was always about King Arthur and Sit Lancelot. I wanted to be a knight. This kind of moved into a Robin Hood phase, which had me running through the woods in NJ swinging a strangely twig-like sword. :)

I guess when I hit my early teens I dreamt more about being a cowboy. The freedom of the open-range. You could truly make your own way back then. Got out and find yourself a parcel of land, stake your claim and build your life. I still have a love for Spaghetti Westerns, Billy the Kid and Jesse James. Driving through New Mexico, on my way to Cali two months ago, I got out of the truck and just went over one of the dunes and could imagine the old west. It was so easy to imagine indians and cowboys riding over the plains. I could hire myself out to protect the stagecoach as it meandered through the dusty plains. A bit of a theme there - the knight, the stage coach bodyuard - always the role of the protector.

Now-a-days, I think I dream of the times when I was a child dreaming. Yeah, I'm still a kid at heart but to not have to go to work and not care so much. When we're kids we're unstoppable. Falling out of a tree? Not even a concern, the only thought was getting to the top. Now I'm too concerned about whether my health insurance will cover it.:( I guess that's more my daydreams. I really don't remember my dreams at night. But the next time I do I'll look up the thread.

Temporary highjack...

Saw Buffet play for my 40th - last song of the night - second encore - "A Pirate Looks At Forty" - couldn't have been better if I had planned it myself!!! I returned the favor when Beerman turned 40, though Jimmy didn't play the song that year, but he did play every one of Beerman's favorites throughout the evening.

Okay John, you get the ship! I'll round up Beerman and IC out on the plains somewhere and meet you at the dock (with our horses in tow and one for you, of course)!! We'll start our own broadcasting company and report from around the world. IC can make us fabulous meals every day. We can write our autobiographies (or is that biographies - I forget) while we sail. We'll make a fortune. We'll be very philanthropic (what goes around comes around). I'll even bring a strangely stick-like sword along (for IC) in case there are dragons to be slain.

We now return you to the regularly scheduled programming...

To whom it may concern,

Upon reading these last few remarks it has to my attention that there are some members of Travellerspoint (TP) whom wish to be pirates and worship spaghetti westerns.

The time has come for you to learn the truth of our existance, the beginning of space and time, to look into our past and future. Over the last few centuries there have been many idea's passed down from generation to generation all regarding "God", the ultimate "Him".

To not my swayed by such stories of old, for there is a greater force, and greater diety that rules all of the universe and it's twenty-six dimensions.

Pray to the almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster!

i think ironchef should be robin hood. (and if he wont, believe me i will)
i think brendan is my hero for that crazy crap.
i think i loved legos as much as QZ did as a kid. (i dunno tho you seem like you would rock that shit quan. now you got degrees in asskicking)
i think tina should control all the world armies (and convert them to personal poutine chefs)
i think would should steal jimmy buffet and force him to follow john around playing like personal theme music.
i think canoes are dumb....

Meatballs! Marinara! All Hail!

I would love to be Robin Hood. I just don't know if I have Erol Flynn's style. (Hope I got his name right. Been a long time since I saw the movie) Just as long as I can be part Robin Hood/Part cowboy and quote from Tombstone before I rob someone. "I'll be your Huckleberry" And, after borrowing Beerman's green tights, swing away into the forest with my jolly band. Man, I know I am gonna have some weird dreams tomight.:)
