How does one go about this and is it easily(or really) possible
or is the ease proportional to the cost.
have heard of others going all the way though....
and what are the local hand distilled beverages on the way(%alc/vol)
thanks

by the way this is a fantastic travel forum!! congrates to all

It's been a while since I was in a geography class but Australia is an island.

I don't see anyway to get from the Asian continents to Australia except by boat or air. I'm not even aware of any bridges connecting Australia to any other major land mass. Maybe our friends from OZ can correct me if I'm wrong on that last part.

But you're going to have to take a boat or a plane, as a matter of fact you'll have to get around the Philippines, Indonesia and New Guinea all of which are Islands. Although why not stop there too if you have the time.

You could walk from Cambodia to Australia, but only if you are JC

HA HA HA.......
i mean walk down, short boat trips, walk short boat trips.or fly island to island.
please people do not be taking the piss!!!!
i am very familiar with the geography!!i really didnt think i would have to be that specific...I dont like to insult peoples intelligence.
and i'm always happy to see the first person to attack was an american...

igetlost, I just removed the other forum post regarding this as it was impossible to see from the title that it would be about this unless you knew of the other thread.

Anyway, now that the question is a bit clearer and the sarcasm muted (you took a beating there didn't you? :) ), I'd be pretty interested in the replies. It sounds like an unbelievable journey! Are you planning this and how long would you estimate this taking? Maybe you'll be able to get a few folks walking along with you for stretches...

I'm guessing if you are serious about it, there wouldn't be any reason this isn't possible. There are boats from Indonesia to Australia and as long as you have your visas in order for Oz, I don't see any reason for problems. The bigger problem I see is just how long this might take; wouldn't this easily take a couple of years?

yes a beating was taking..
you see thats the thing some one made reference to it somewhere and i lost the thread.although it peaked my interest.as for it taking years yes i'm sure it could but that would be detailed and walking all the way.my buget and lack of labour skill would necessitate a less tranquil amble...
but the idea is swirling round....
i was going to ask you to edit the title and make it sound less stupid but maybe it'll draw more people in;)

You're a good sport about it :) When typing, things just don't always come out right ... I'm terrible at it sometimes and even the smilies don't always help to get the right message across. I think it'll help leaving the title as it is (plus it's a manual process which involves me rooting in the database - something I'd rather avoid ).

Definitely sounds like an amazing trip; I'd be keen to learn more about it like you!

I read what Chef TrekR said it was not an attack. He pointed out the OZ is an island and it is impossible to literally walk into OZ. It seems too many TP members cannot wait to point out that Americans are: fat, ignorant, lazy, obnoxious, ill informed, etc. Would you have even made the comment if Chef TrekR was from Italy, OZ, Canada, Britain? I doubt it.

I did meet two guys that left England on off road BMWs and were heading to India. I met them in Cambodia and again in Thailand. They went through Europe, Russia, China, VN, Cambodia, Thailand, on their way to Myanmar, then India. Now that is a trip worth thinking about. Walking long distances in Asia seems like a real chore.. It is way too hot many months and then way too wet the rest of the year.

ok i guess i'll specify further
land or sea based travel..OK??.is that OK??
and until we wait on the actual classification of australia to become
australia/oceania, australia is a continental landmass surround by water!!!!!!and not an island!!!!!!
ok vegasmike? so people better get upto date if there going to fight on other peoples behalf!!!

and i apologise to cheftrek.what i said i meant as banter rather than an assault on americans.
to vegasmike: the word 'attack' does not necessarily mean an all out strike intending to harm, there are many ways of using it as tongue in cheek........like i did!!! grow up!

as a note....
if you dont know australia is surround by water(and if you feel the need to point it out) realistically thats pretty sad!!!

anyway, anybody back on point?:)!!!!
